Why I Started LateStartBigFinish.com | My Story
The Moment That Started Everything
It started on eBay. Somewhere around 2003 or 2004 — I was living in San Francisco, scrolling the internet late at night the way you do when something is pulling at you and you’re not sure what it is yet. I’d been reading about people making money online. Real money. And something about it just wouldn’t leave me alone.
So I did it. I created a little store on eBay. Got into dropshipping. Found a guy who taught me how to source products from China. I listed my first product — something related to camping equipment if I remember right — and then I waited.
And then it happened. Someone bought it. Someone I had never met, in a part of the country I’d never been to, sent me money for something I had sourced from the other side of the world. The whole thing just blew my mind. I was sitting there staring at the screen thinking — wait. This actually works. Regular people can actually do this.
I was in love with it from that moment on. Twenty-two years later, I still am.
Life Has a Way of Getting in the Way
I want to be honest with you about what the next twenty years actually looked like. Because if you’re reading this site, you probably don’t need another success story that skips the hard parts. You need someone who tells the truth.
The truth is — I stopped. More than once. Not because I lost faith in what was possible. But because life came in like a freight train and left me no choice.
The Divorce. It hit hard. The kind of thing that reshapes everything — your routines, your finances, your sense of who you are and what you’re working toward.
My Father Fell Ill. I packed up and moved from California back to Texas to be with him until he passed. You don’t think twice about it. You just go. But your life back home doesn’t pause while you’re gone.
Starting Over — Again. When I came back to California, my position had been filled. Union jobs don’t wait. I had to start from the bottom — night shifts, a two-hour daily commute each way to the Bay Area, working my way back up. That takes a toll on a person. Body and soul.
Finding My Way Back. Slowly, life came back together. I met Meribe. We built a family. I worked my way back up in my career. And that dream of building something online — it never left. It just waited.
Why AI Changed Everything
A little over a year ago, something shifted.
I had tried to come back to online business before. Writing articles on my own was painstaking — one piece could take me a week. The gap between what I wanted to build and what I could actually produce as one person working alone felt impossible to close.
Then I discovered AI writing tools. And I started experimenting. And then I found Claude.
Before AI: one article might take me a week. After AI: I now have two websites — one with over 200 published articles, one with 25 — and a brand new site launching this month. None of that was possible for one person working alone before AI existed.
For the first time in twenty-two years, the gap between vision and execution closed. I could finally build at the speed my mind had always been moving.
What I’m Building — And Why I’m Doing It in Public
Right now I run two affiliate content websites in addition to this one. I’m learning. I’m growing. And I’m starting to see what’s possible.
But I also know I’m not the only one in this position. There are millions of people like me — in their 50s and 60s, approaching retirement, worried the numbers won’t add up, wanting to build something but not knowing where to start or whether it’s too late.
It’s not too late. I know that now.
And that’s why LateStartBigFinish.com exists. Not to teach theory I learned from a course. But to document what I’m actually doing, in real time, with real results — including the failures — so that people who feel like me have someone to follow who isn’t selling a dream. Someone who is living the journey right alongside them.
What I Want By the Time I’m 65
I want freedom. A real exit strategy. A plan that protects Meribe if anything ever happened to me. Something I can hand to my sons and say — look what’s possible. Here’s a different way to live. You don’t have to wait until 67 to start living on your own terms.
That’s what I’m building. And I’m building it right here, in public, starting from zero, one honest article at a time.
Month 1 Income Report: $0
The domain was registered on April 22, 2026. The site is new. The income is zero. And I’m telling you that on purpose — because the people who built the most loyal audiences in this space almost all say the same thing: the months that built the deepest trust weren’t the big income months. They were the early ones. The honest ones. The ones where someone said “I’m starting from nothing and I’m going to show you everything.”
So here we are. Month one. Zero dollars. And I am more committed to this than I have ever been in twenty-two years of trying.
If that sounds like your story too — you’re in the right place. Pull up a chair. Let’s figure this out together.
